Marquette, MI – February 27, 2025 – Governor Gretchen Whitmer delivered her annual State of the State Address last night in Lansing and State Senator Ed McBroom has some thoughts and reactions.
Speaking before a joint session of the State House and Senate, the Democratic Governor touched on her accomplishments so far and outlined a series of initiatives for the coming year. Whitmer’s main points were lowering costs, creating jobs, and improving education.
McBroom said there were several points in the speech that he agreed with, and said the Governor’s message and tone were conciliatory with a focus on reaching across the aisle to build bipartisan solutions.
The Dickinson County Republican did say, however, that while many of the topics and proposals she outlined had a somewhat universal appeal to lawmakers in both parties, arriving to a consensus is where things can get difficult due to party politics.
McBroom said he did wish Whitmer would have referenced and cited the Upper Peninsula more in her remarks, but added he is looking forward to working with her in the new legislative session.
