Tessman shared his thoughts on the recently announced, and subsequently rescinded, order by the Trump administration to freeze federal grant funding, a key component in the financial operation of NMU.

He also talked about recent attacks on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, or DEI, programs by President Trump and other lawmakers on both the federal and state level and what NMU is doing in response.

Tessman also gave insight into why the university pulled it’s support for the controversial Copperwood Mine project in the western U.P. after NMU had been listed by the state and mining company officials on record as having been in support of it.

He also highlighted enrollment successes at NMU for the winter semester that are continuing upward trends in both enrollment and student retention at the Marquette school.
