Marquette, MI – February 3, 2025 – A series of international tariffs are poised to be enacted by the Trump administration on Mexico, Canada and China that critics say will raise the cost of critical goods and services and put jobs at risk.
Supporters say, conversely, that the tariffs will serve to increase people buying goods and using services based in the United States which will boost the domestic economy.
The Lake Superior Community Partnership is actively working with local, state, and federal partners to assess the potential impact of these tariffs and coordinate efforts to gauge their impact locally.
Germain said that the agency is researching the tariffs and other sweeping and fast moving policy changes by the Trump team and their impacts in Marquette County.
He said the LSCP has an eye on increasing their ability address local economic concerns as they are raised in the local business and private sector.
Germain explained that while the LSCP is optimistic that the issues can and will be resolved, they are encouraging local employers affected by this order to be in contact with the agency as they refine their advocacy efforts.
