
Marquette, MI – September 6, 2024 – A new public sculpture is being unveiled this evening in Marquette.
The installation of the ‘Seven Grandfather Teachings’ sculpture by artist Jason Quigno is happening at a special ceremony at 5:30pm.
Pruiett said it will be adjacent to the Lower Harbor ore dock at the entrance of the Spear Dock walking pier.
She explained that the sculpture was commissioned by the City of Marquette Public Art Commission.
Quigno, an Anishinaabe contemporary stone sculptor has carved seven locally quarried boulders to represent each of the Seven traditional Grandfathers and their teachings. The stones will be placed in a circle at the entry to the walking pier.
Pruiiett added that there will also be a musical performance and laser light show on the ore dock that starts at 8:00pm.
