Marquette, MIApril 29, 2024 – After two decades of supporting the blues, the Marquette Area Blues Society is making some changes after this year’s Marquette Area Blues Fest.

MABS President Mark Hamari spoke about the changes today with Mark & Walt in the Morning.

Hamari said that the Blues Society will be celebrating 20 years of the blues with the 20th Anniversary Marquette Area Blues Fest over Labor Day Weekend in Mattson Lower Harbor Park in Marquette.

He then added that the 20th Anniversary Blues Fest will be the final one for the group.  Citing a drop in volunteers, the aging out of key organizing staff and increased expenses, Hamari explained why the MABS Board voted to end the event.

Hamari assured listeners that the Blues Society will continue and will shift to a model using quarterly concerts around Marquette County with national touring acts and local and regional blues artists performing at various venues.

More information can be found at the Marquette Area Blues Fest Facebook page.
