Marquette, MI – March 18, 2024 – Bipartisan legislation sponsored by State Senator Ed McBroom and downstate Senator Jeremy Moss increasing transparency in state government is moving forward.
Senator McBroom spoke about the legislation today with Mark & Walt in the Morning.
McBroom says the bills include the State Legislature in the Freedom of Information Act, as well as the offices of Governor and Lieutenant Governor. Exemptions for those offices and the legislature have been in effect since a 1976 state law was passed concerning records requests by the public and the media.
The bills were approved last week by the Senate Oversight Committee and now head to the full Senate. McBroom and Moss have been working to get the legislation to a vote since they were both in the State House nine years ago.
