Marquette, MI – January 19, 2024 – The Friends of Shiras Planetarium is a group of community members that has recently formed that is dedicated to the long-term thriving of the facility, located within the Marquette Senior High School.
Chair Stephanie Jones spoke about the effort this week with Mark & Walt in the Morning.
Jones explained that they have launched a capital campaign to raise $800,000 for a new digital projection system, with ongoing fundraising to establish an endowment for future tech needs.
She said the group has already secured $500,000 toward the effort, including $250,000 from the Shiras Institute and $250,000 from the State of Michigan.
Jones said the push is now on to seek out large-scale and privet donor to get the remaining money together, adding that the essential endowment fund will ensure long-term support for the planetarium.
