Marquette, MI – January 9, 2024 – The Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education has pared down the list of possible new nicknames for the high school.
The eight possible nicknames were selected through public input and internal review by students, faculty and staff following the recent Board vote to discontinue the former Redmen and Redettes nicknames.
Sedgwick said the the list includes: Cardinals, Hawks, Marauders, Reds, Redtail Hawks, Red Hawks, Red Jackets and Sentinels.
He added that the Board will continue discussion of these names at their meeting on January 16th and plan to make a final decision at their January 22nd meeting.
Sedgwick said the Board is also continuing to ask for public input and any feedback regarding the list should be emailed directly to the MAPS Board of Education at schoolboard@mapsnet.org.
