Marquette County Sheriff’s Office Discusses Jordan DeMay Investigation

Marquette, MIMay 18, 2023 – Three Nigerian men were indicted earlier this month by federal authorities in the death of a Marquette teen who took his own life after an online sextortion incident.

17-year-old Jordan deMay died by suicide after falling victim to the extortion scam in March of 2022.

22-year-old Samuel Ogoshi, 20-year-old Samson Ogoshi and 19-year-old Ezekiel Robert, all of Lagos, Nigeria, were all charged in a four-count federal indictment.  Those arrests came after a multi-agency investigation involving local, state and federal authorities.

Marquette County Sheriff Greg Zyburt and Captain Lowell Larson spoke about the investigation today with Mark & Walt in the Morning.

Zyburt said this arrest marked the first of it’s kind in the country and was a credit to all of the agencies working together with a sense of urgency to solve the case.

Larson added that open lines of communication that were formed early on by the deMay family’s willingness to publicly discuss the circumstances death of Jordan were instrumental in the success of the investigation.

Federal authorities say the the investigation launched by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office and the local FBI office into deMay’s death lead directly to the to defendants being identified and charged.
