Marquette, MIMay, 1, 2023 – A Winter Storm Warning is posted for the north-central and western Upper Peninsula from Alger to Gogebic Counties.

The National Weather Service Office in Negaunee Township says heavy, wet snow, freezing rain and high winds are hitting the region into tomorrow morning.

Anywhere from 6 to 18 inches of snow is expected in Marquette County, with the lowest accumulations close to Lake Superior. The greatest snow accumulations, up to 2 feet, will occur in the high terrain to the southeast of L’Anse and to the west and northwest of Negaunee. North winds gusting as high as 45 mph.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS FOR Monday, May 1, 2023:

Northern Michigan University is closed due to inclement weather. It is Finals Week at NMU and students should check their email regarding exam schedule policy.

Negaunee Public Schools and NICE Community Schools are having virtual online learning days today.

All other schools in Marquette and Baraga Counties are closed today due to the weather and poor roads.
