Marquette City Commission Voting On Downtown Social District Proposal

Marquette, MIMarch 27, 2023The Marquette City Commission has a regular meeting this evening where Commissioners will be voting on a plan to implement a Social District in select parts of the city.

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs spoke about the meeting today with Mark & Walt in the Morning.

Kovacs explained that the Social District would allow for adult outdoor consumption of alcoholic beverages, sold in special cups by participating businesses, within a designated area in the downtown district.

She added that, in other business, Commissioners will also be voting on a proposed tax exemption for a parcel of property at 1502 West Ridge Street being considered for an affordable housing project.

The meeting begins at 6:00pm at Commission Chambers at Marquette City Hall.
