Marquette, MI – March 22, 2023 – Governor Gretchen Whitmer has declared this week as Severe Weather Awareness Week in Michigan.
State Police, and emergency management officials are encouraging residents to plan and prepare for seasonal severe weather.
Zika said while Michigan averages 15 tornadoes a year, they not very common in the Upper Peninsula.
He said people can take this time to prepare for strong thunderstorms, flash flooding and straight-line winds that are much more common in the U.P. over the springtime and summer.
