Marquette, MI – March 20, 2023 – State Senator Ed McBroom is taking on the “Dark Stores” property tax valuation issue with a new approach with new legislation he has introduced in Lansing.
McBroom spoke about the legislation today with Mark & Walt in the Morning.
McBroom explained that his two bills, SB 19 and 20, are designed to bring more large-scale property value cases before local courts, rather than the Michigan State Tax Tribunal.
He said that there have been several attempts over the years to address the “dark stores” loophole in the tax valuation process, and this legislation looks to take large-scale and complex tax cases away from the tribunal and bringing them back to local circuit courts.
McBroom added that he believes taking this approach will help communities around the state.
