Marquette, MI – January 5, 2023 – Snow covered and slippery roads are being reported across the central U.P. this morning, so expect a hazardous morning commute with lake enhanced snow showers with the system still in the area.
The National Weather Service in Negaunee Township says we can expect additional snow amounts of 1 to 3 inches through the day today. Area law enforcement agencies say to exercise caution if you have travel plans today. Drive at reduced speeds.
Road conditions that deteriorated during the overnight hours have resulted in multiple schools closed this morning.
All Marquette, Alger and Baraga county schools are closed for the day today. That includes the Marquette-Alger RESA and North Star Montessori Academy in Marquette.
Several early head start programs and preschools are also closed.
Also canceled for today is the Meals on Wheels program Negaunee, Ishpeming and Republic.
