Marquette, MI – October 4, 2022 – The flu season for 2022 to 2023 is upon us, and Upper Peninsula Health Plan is getting the word out about the risk of getting influenza as well as the complications that can come from it.
Anderton said the CDC is predicting the 2022-2023 season to be severe and it could be starting as early as October and extend all the way through May, adding that every year in the U.S, there are millions of people ill with the flu.
She explained that the flu is vaccine-preventable meaning that vaccinations can prevent serious complications from influenza, and an annual flu vaccination is recommended for anyone six months and older.
Anderton added that the CDC is recommending that every get their flu shots by the end of October to try to stay ahead of influenza spreading within the community.
Flu vaccines will be available at flu shot clinics, local pharmacies in your communities, as well as in provider offices. Call your primary care provider to see if their office is able to provide you with your flu vaccination.
Anderton said that UPHP will be offering flu shot clinics this season at upcoming Feeding America Mobile Food Truck visits.
These will take place on October 12th at Gwinn/Sawyer, October 19th in Marquette at the Berry Events Center, and November 2nd in Munising at the Eden Lutheran Church.
