Marquette, MISeptember 12, 2022The Marquette City Commission has a pair of meetings later today.

At 4:15 pm, the Commission will be holding a special meeting to discuss water, sewer and stormwater rates in the city. The Commission will then hold a regular meeting at 6:00 p.m.

At that session, Commissioners will formally accept a $30,000 Michigan Economic Development Corporation grant to provide funding for the hiring of services to update the Master Plan for the city.

Both meetings will be held at Commission Chambers at Marquette City Hall.

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs spoke about the meetings and more today with Mark & Walt in the Morning.

Kovacs also discussed the city’s rolling out new recycling carts for residents starting today, officially launching its carted “single-stream” collection service.

Under the program, sorting recyclables is not necessary, and residents will be able to place all recyclable items, except for glass, into a new, larger 64-gallon container.

The carts will begin arriving at residents’ homes today and will replace the smaller bins currently in use.
