Marquette, MI – June 16, 2022 – Camp UPeninsulin, Upper Michigan’s only camp for Type I diabetic kids, is coming up in July.
Alderton said the camp, which is being held July 12th to the 16th at the Clear Lake Education Center near Manistique, gives kids across the U.P. with Type I diabetes a change to meet other kids with Type I, which is important because a lot of these kids are one of the only diabetics in their town or area.
Hemmila talked about his time as both a camper and a counselor and how the camp shows the kids they are not alone in the diabetic journey. Most of the camp staff are also Type I diabetic. They are in a controlled setting with physicians and nurses.
