Northern Michigan University Increases Support Of UP 200 Sled Dog Race

Marquette, MI February 15, 2022Northern Michigan University is stepping up their support of the UP200 Sled Dog Race. The university will become a Gold Sled Sponsor with naming rights beginning next year.

NMU Chief Marketing Officer Derek Hall and Darlene Walch, President of the U.P. Sled Dog Association, spoke about the partnership agreement today with Mark & Walt in the Morning.

Walch said the partnership is built on the long-standing relationship between NMU and the U.P. Sled Dog Association. The official name for the 2023 race will be “UP200 – Powered by NMU.”

Hall explained that the new partnership will enhance volunteering, learning and participation opportunities for NMU students, faculty and staff. It will also elevate the event’s branding and marketing efforts through related in-kind services and financial support provided by NMU.

Elements of the new partnership will be ramped up starting with this weekend’s race in Marquette and Alger Counties.
