Marquette, MI – October 21, 2021 – Work has begun today by the City of Ishpeming on a project creating a rustic campground along Malton Road.
Ishpeming City Manager Craig Cugini spoke about the project today on Mark & Walt in the Morning.
Cugini says the project was spurred on by the city receiving a $100,000 Michigan Rural Development grant to build the site.
He said the work has started with the clearing of about 12 acres of city-owned forest to allow for a topographic study to design the site plan for the planned 16-acre campground.
Cugini added that the city has also received grant funding to plant 1200 trees to reforest the site once it is built. The project is expected to be completed in Fall of 2022.
