Negaunee, Michigan October 30th, 2015 – The Negaunee Miners Football team hosted the Calumet Copper Kings tonight in the first round of the playoffs. Jesse Anderson and Brady Guilbault were there in the Ferrell Gas Broadcast Booth to bring you all the exciting action on Sunny.FM.
The Calumet Copper Kings were first to receive the ball in the game and started their drive at their 40 yard line. The Copper Kings had a long drive, but ended it with a touchdown and after the 2 point conversion led the Negaunee Miners 8-0. The Negaunee Miners first drive was stopped short by the Calumet Copper Kings defense and the remained scoreless with the first quarter half over. The Miners were able to stop the Copper Kings next drive, but lost the ball on a punt fumble. The Calumet Copper Kings took the extra chance and scored with 9 seconds left in the game to lead 16-0.
The Negaunee Miners started the second quarter with possession of the ball and George Johnson scored a touchdown to trail 6-16 against the Calumet Copper Kings on Sunny.FM. The ball was fumbled on the Copper Kings next drive and the Negaunee Miners regained possession, but were unable to complete the drive. The first half of play ended with the Calumet Copper Kings leading 16-6 against the Negaunee Miners.
The Negaunee Miners were first to receive the ball in the second half of the game, but could not get pass the Calumet Copper Kings defense. The Negaunee Miners defense found some fire on the Copper Kings next drive and stopped a score. The third quarter proved to be a defensive game and the Calumet Copper Kings remained in the lead 16-6.
The Calumet Copper Kings started the fourth quarter with a touchdown and after the 2 point conversion lead 24-6 against the Negaunee Miners with 8 minutes left in the game. The Negaunee Miners answered back with a touchdown scored by Brock Aho and after the 2 point, trailed 24-14. The Calumet Copper Kings prevailed tonight and held the lead 24-14 against the Miners to take the win.
