MARQUETTE – Brad Deacon, MDARD’s Office of Legal Affairs & Emergency Management Director, came on the 8th Day to talk about Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development hosting Rapid Response Teams from across the Midwest in Marquette at Ramada September 10th-11th. The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is hosting representatives from Departments of Agriculture of Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri, Iowa and Kansas, the Food and Drug Administration, the United States Department of Agriculture and the local area health department involved in developing a more robust integrated food safety system.
The September meeting provides a unique opportunity allows states to connect and share information with other agencies to be able to respond quickly and effectively when food safety issues arise. The food system is not only interconnected within each state, but across the nation. It’s critical that agencies be able to work with one another to protect public health and the integrity of the food supply.
