The Community Crop Swap is for gardeners who have an overabundance of garden produce and are interested in “swapping” with others who also have garden surplus. Participants are asked to bring their excess produce in cardboard boxes (labeled), along with empty baskets or bags to collect produce that others have brought.
No pesticides or GMOs please.
“We think Graveraet is an ideal location for an event like this.” said Michael Riesterer, of Transition Marquette. “We have an annual plant swap at Graveraet in the spring, so it makes sense to follow that up with a crop swap in late summer.” Miriah Redmond of MQT Growth added, “We’ll also be inviting everyone to tour the hoop house at Graveraet Elementary School to see what students are growing and how various permaculture principles are being applied.” Other garden-related projects will also be on display during the Crop Swap. Donations will be accepted to help support the Graveraet hoop house. All surplus produce will be donated to the Warming Center in Marquette.
