Rosemary Michelin Discusses Her Norwegian Fiber Arts Workshop at the MRHC in March

Marquette, MI – On the 8th Day Radio Show, Rosemary Michelin discusses her Norwegian Fiber Arts Workshop coming to the Marquette Regional History Center March 16th and March 23rd.  The March 16th session is entry-level, while the March 23rd session is more advanced.

This two session workshop will start with a brief history of the rich textile traditions of Norway such as weaving, knitting and embroidery, showing examples of these arts. The classes will then concentrate on embroidery techniques. At the first class, attendees will be able to create several samples which could be made into an ornaments, coaster or pincushion using diamond, satin and star stitch in colorful wool yarn. The second class will explore Hardanger embroidery which is a very intricate white on white cut thread technique. This sample can be fashioned into an ornament. Attendees should bring a sharp embroidery scissors. All other supplies will be provided by the Instructor.

$75.00 registration fee, and limited space available. Pre-registration is required. The classes will be held at the Marquette Regional History Center on March 16 and March 23 from 10am to 3pm. Call MRHC at 226-3571.

The instructor, Rosemary Michelin has been embroidering for over 40 years, and has attended Hardanger embroidery and weaving classes at the Vesterheim Museum in Iowa.
