Marquette, Michigan – Mattson’s Lower Harbor Park in Marquette was alive with food, fun, and live music from August 24th-25th, 2018. The free two-day music fest, aptly named HarborFest, which boasts headliner bands such as Bumpus and Live Bullet Detroit, has a lot more to offer than beer and local bands. Put on by the Marquette West Rotary, the fest is a large source of fundraising for local non-profits in the Marquette area. Amanda Filizetti, president of the Marquette West Rotary, spoke to The 8th Day’s Todd Pazz about the end-of-the-summer celebration.
HarborFest takes place right on the shore of Lake Superior, and is much more than just a music festival.
“It’s a great opportunity for everybody in the community to come out and say a last ‘hurrah’ to summer,” said Filizetti.
In addition to the food vendors, live bands, and beer tent, the fest, which has gone on for more than 20 years, generates nearly $35,000 that goes back into the community to help out around 45 local non-profit organizations. These non-profits include groups like the Women’s Center, UPAWS, and even the Girl Scouts, to name a few. The beer tent, according to Filizetti, is where a lot of the HarborFest profit comes from.
Besides the beer tent and music, festival-goers can enjoy awesome food, inflatables with their kids down by the lake, games of bean bag toss, and even a classic car and motorcycle show. There’s also a catch-and-release fishing tournament.
“There’s basically something for everybody,” Filizetti said.
If you’re looking for a family-friendly festival that not only is a blast but has a lot of exciting variety, look no further than Marquette’s HarborFest. It’s a great way to enjoy the end of the summer while helping the Marquette West Rotary with their mission in helping out great non-profits from around the area.
