Marquette, Michigan – Recently the following notice came across my desktop as a press release:
The Fred Waara Chapter of Trout Unlimited
will hold its monthly board meeting Wednesday, June 3 at 6:30pm in the Board Room at The Landmark Inn, Marquette.
All who are interested in cold water fisheries and conservation are invited to attend.
Fred Waara Chapter TU PO Box 123 Marquette, MI 49855 (906) 249-3598
As with so many announcements from local organizations, I wondered how the local chapter of Trout Unlimited mattered in my life and in my community. Rather than speculate or guess, I decided to contact the chapter president of the Fred Waara Chapter Trout Unlimited, Jerry Maynard.
In the following interview, Jerry reveals the history, goals, and fundraising activities of his organization, revealing so much I didn’t know, and perhaps you didn’t too. Listen to following and perhaps visit Fred Waara page at the national Trout Unlimited website to learn more http://www.tu.org/connect/chapter-search?id=452
After my slaughtering the name of their organization, Jerry and I get into pretty interesting topics including how the organization locally works with scientists and the Michigan DNR as well as the United States Fish and Wildlife service to restore, rebuild, and reconnect fisheries, improving the habitat and ecology of cold water fisheries. Devoting about half of their budget to education, the Fred Waara Chapter of Trout Unlimited goes into schools to provide the tools and materials to allow local school children and teachers to participate in helping restock fisheries.
Give a listen to the Interview with Jerry Maynard of Fred Waara Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
