President Obama – Investing in Education

Listen:

To be competitive, we need to make smart choices.  Cutting the education budget and reducing investments in research and technology will not help us compete, especially against countries like China. Adding more tax cuts and military spending without addressing our existing debt will not enhance our competitiveness either. The current tax code favors companies that move jobs overseas instead of those that invest in the U. S. , which is not beneficial.  After years of job losses, we must not return to policies that caused problems before.

He pointed out that cutting education funding, limiting investments in technology, unnecessary military spending, and tax policies favoring corporations would hurt us.  In 2025, Donald Trump is making similar decisions that may reflect a different approach, such as cutting federal funding for certain diversity programs in universities and military spending increases.

Some argue that these actions might actually stem bias and prioritize spending, potentially bringing jobs back.  While these moves may not align with Democratic preferences, they aren’t entirely bad.

I committed to reducing wasteful spending, and we don’t have to wait for Congress to act on this issue.  Both parties should work to improve government efficiency, which is something we are already addressing through our own initiatives.
