Ms. Leavitt: Good afternoon, everybody.
President Trump is at the helm, and the United States is experiencing a resurgence. Recent events have further validated the tangible impact of the Trump administration. Over the weekend, the nation rejoiced at the safe return of American-Israeli citizen Keith Siegel and two Israelis who had been held captive by Hamas terrorists since October 7, 2023. The administration worked tirelessly to facilitate their release and remains dedicated to securing the freedom of all remaining hostages. Just yesterday, President Trump conducted his inaugural foreign meeting at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. As the President articulated, the enduring friendship and deep affection between the American and Israeli peoples have stood the test of time and are fundamentally unbreakable. He is resolute in his mission to dismantle Hamas and to establish a lasting peace throughout the region. The groundbreaking proposal announced by President Trump for the United States to assume control of Gaza further emphasizes this commitment.
The notion of repeating the same actions while anticipating different outcomes is often deemed irrational. President Trump embodies an innovative mindset and serves as a visionary leader, adept at addressing challenges that many, particularly within the political establishment, deem insurmountable. The positive outcomes of President Trump’s assertive “peace through strength” diplomacy are already evident on the global stage.
In response to the tariffs imposed by President Trump this week, both Mexico and Canada swiftly took measures to mitigate illegal immigration and the influx of dangerous drugs, notably fentanyl, into the United States. Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has committed to permanently stationing 10,000 Mexican soldiers at the U. S. border, specifically tasked with curbing the flow of fentanyl and criminal elements. Meanwhile, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has agreed to appoint a fentanyl czar, designate cartels as terrorist organizations, and enhance resources for the 10,000 frontline personnel at the northern border. In light of these proactive steps, President Trump has decided to temporarily suspend the implementation of tariffs for one month.
