Project Jade Talks About Autism and Support for the Marquette Community [Interview]

Marquette, MI – May 19th, 2021 – While visiting the Home & Garden Show, Todd Pazz of the 8th Day, had the delight to speak with Megan Iwanski, a member of Project Jade. She was enthusiastic about introducing their project and sharing the prizes available at their booth.

Project Jade, a pronounced Facebook group with nearly 700 members, is fundraising around the community to help fund communication boards for special needs students in the Upper Peninsula. The organization’s name was inspired by a young girl named Jade, who is growing up with autism. She boasts a colorful personality, loves to be outside, and is creatively artistic.

Communication boards provide a way for non-verbal persons on the spectrum to speak with their peers. They provide a series of pictures for non-verbal people to point at. That way they can clearly illustrate their thoughts and feelings with others. These tools are extremely helpful to those on the spectrum who cannot voice their needs.

With more availability of these communication boards, those who need them can become more adept at using them. These boards can be useful for all peoples in the Marquette area as an educational and communication tool.

Project Jade hosted a booth at the Home & Garden Show, sponsoring a raffle with various prizes, including children’s books, blankets, sweets, and wine.
