Marquette, MI – Over the holiday weekend Todd Paz, host of The 8th Day, spent some time at the Country Showdown during the International Food Fest at the Lower Harbor. Country Showdown is an event run by Great Lakes Radio WFXD, Sunny.fm’s sister station. During the event, Todd met with a few acts from the showdown. Todd interviewed two young ladies from Ironwood, Michigan.
The frequent sprinkling at the Lower Harbor didn’t stop Megan and Kaylan Volaski from competing in the show. These two sisters created the group, Sugar and Spice. They played three different songs in the contest starting with Miranda Lambert’s 2011 hit single “Mama’s Broken Heart“. The pair followed this song with Jeff Buckley’s “Hallelujah” and “Tornado” by Little Big Town. Megan and Kaylan came down from Ironwood for July 3rd’s Country Showdown in order to make it to a gig they have scheduled for this coming August.
Saturday Morning Todd Paz met with Michael Beauchamp, a veteran performer in the WFXD Country Showdowns. Beauchamp comes back year after year to compete. Beauchamp said he comes back yearly because “It’s just fun to come out here and play. It’s a chance to get out in public and do a little music.”
Despite the talent and strong competition, Michael Beauchamp will likely be back again for the County Showdown in August as well. “I would recommend that if you play country music, just come out and play”, said Beauchamp, “because it’s fun to play here!”
Following the interview Todd Paz met with WFXD’s Dennis from On the Job with Dennis to get the scoop on what was to come. In the audio interview competition winners to be, Jacob, James, Joseph, Josh Prusi of the Beats Working Band can be heard jamming out.
The winner from each Country Showdown goes on to the regional competition and finally a state competition where artists have a shot at the $100,000 grand prize!
According to Dennis the next Country Showdown from Great Lakes Radio’s WFXD is on August 1st, 2015. This music battle will be held at the newly remodeled Lion’s Field in Trowbridge Park.
