Netflix vs. Hulu: The Battle of Nostalgia

992

Fans of 90’s TV sitcoms had a week full of great news, as steaming companies Netflix & Hulu both made big announcements to bring back two great shows.

It started when Netflix announced a sequel to Full House was in production and scheduled to release next year. The new series Fuller House would follow the now-adult Tanner daughters, who are placed in a familiar situation: Veterinarian D.J. Tanner-Fuller (Cameron-Bure) is pregnant and recently widowed with her two sons, the rebellious 12-year-old J.D. and neurotic seven-year-old Max. Now with a third kid on the way, D.J. invites her younger sister/aspiring musician Stephanie Tanner (Sweetin), BFF/single mother Kimmy Gibbler (Barber) and Kimmy’s teenage daughter Ramona move in with her to help raise her family.

The sequel to the popular ABC sitcom that ran from 1987-1995 will star Candace Cameron-Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber, while producer John Stamos is set to reprise his “Uncle Jesse Katsopolis” role in a guest-star capacity. As of now, discussions with the rest of the “Full House” cast, Bob Saget (Danny Tanner) Dave Coulier (Joey Gladstone), Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (Michelle) and Lori Loughlin (Becky Donaldson), regarding “Fuller House” appearances, are ongoing.

Then, Hulu made an announcement to bring the beloved 90’s TV show Seinfield to a new medium it has not seen before: online streaming.

The streaming company bought the rights to the entire series, for a reported cost of $180 million, approximately $1 million an episode. Fans of the show have not been able to stream episodes of the series in any format since it’s release, making this acquisition a great move for Hulu, a company that has struggled to compete with Netflix so far.

While they will not be producing more episodes, starting in June fans will be able to binge watch “The Show About Nothing” from start to finish.
