February 3, 2012 – Northern Michigan The Band Yid Vicious Took My Mind Away To Eastern EuropeUniversity Marquette – One of the main benefits to attending a concert in the Great Lakes Room at NMU is the music is so good, the artists so talented, and the style is so different it just sweeps you off your feet.
Yid Vicious was better than good. I mean this Madison band came to Marquette with a bag of Yiddsh music from the lands of Russia and Romania. A Jewish sound and feel at it’s Russian Dance Styles As Yid Vicious played centuries old Jewish Musicroots, the rolls & trills in the voice, the reedy sounds of a bass clarinet and tenor sax, the drone of a fiddle backed by an old world accordion, with drums, tuba, and electric guitar. WOW! TAKE ME AWAY TO A BETTER PLACE!
Organizer Dan Truckey hit a home run with this concert. The band members waltzed through the crowd like they were playing in a flower court off a winding street in RomaniaI want to let you know there were seats still available. This is one nice night out on the town.
The next show in the International Performing Arts Series is Jazz Singer Luciana Souza, a Grammy Award-Winning Brazilian Jazz Singer. Thursday March 22, 7:30pm. General Public — $19 advance, $21 at the door www.lucianasouza.com
