Negaunee, MI11/10/2011 – The Winter Storm that lasted from early Wednesday to early Thursday resulted in about 10-12 inches of snowfall in the Negaunee/Ishpeming area as the first real snow showed up in a hurry for the 2011 Winter.

The difference 10 miles can make in the U.P. is amazing.
Marquette, namely near the coast of Lake Superior, received minimal snowfall. It’s about a 20 minute drive from Negaunee to the shoreline in Marquette. Lake Superior never ceases to amaze in its ability to drastically affect the weather. In this case, Marquette residents are loving the affect the “warm” Lake Superior is having on the shorelines.

However, the residents of the Negaunee/Ishpeming areas were not so lucky. The Winter Storm blasted the inland parts of the northern middle region of the U.P. with heavy winds and a lot of snowfall. Thousands of residents had multiple power outages throughout Wednesday and into Thursday.
