Marquette, MINovember 20, 2014 – It’s time for the Marquette Township to go shopping for more Christmas lights! The beautiful 30 foot Blue Spruce is a donation from local township resident Ken Ceckiewicz.

Ken planted the tree years ago as a seedling when he worked at the White Pine Mine in the Copper Country. When he moved to the township, he transplanted the to his front yard on Badger Street.

“It has grown handsomely in the clay bed to about 30 feet tall, but is too close to the house and needs to be removed,” said Ken Ceckiewicz. “I am happy to donate it to the township so hundreds of people can see it and enjoy it this holiday season.”

The tree will be placed along US 41 by the Westwood Mall sign. The Marquette Township Catch the Christmas Spirit Tree Lighting Event will take place on December 2nd, at 6pm featuring Christmas Carols by the Marquette Redmen Chorale, the Grinch (who might try to steal Christmas again), and Santa who will arrive on a township fire truck to throw the switch. Goodies from Super One Foods and pictures with Santa in the Westwood Mall will follow the lighting ceremony.

Bring the whole family out for a great start to the holiday season!
