02/13/14 Marquette, Michigan – The fans were out tonight as Carl Leander Johnson, the voice of the Negaunee Miners, and Jesse Anderson were in Marquette, Michigan to bring you an exciting basketball match-up between the Negaunee Miners (14-1) and the undefeated Marquette Redmen (16-0) on Sunny.FM!
The Redmen were first to strike on an Andy Nyquist two-pointer to lead 2-0 in the first minutes of the game. Negaunee tied the score 2-2 and then took the lead 4-2 with four minutes left in the first quarter. This quarter was a defensive battle between both teams and the Marquette Redmen regained the lead against the Negaunee Miners 8-4 with two minutes left in the quarter. With 30 seconds left the Miners tied the score 10-10 against the Marquette Redmen. Negaunee would take a 12-11 into the second quarter on a Tyler Jandron step-back buzzer beater from the left baseline!
The Negaunee Miners were first to score in the second quarter and widen their lead to three (14-11) against the Marquette Redmen. Negaunee pushed their lead to nine (22-13) after an impressive four-point play by Tyler Jandron. The Miners continued to be on fire and took a 12 point lead against the Redmen 25-13 with three minutes left in the first half of the game on Sunny.FM! Negaunee led 29-17 at the end of first half against the Marquette Redmen in Marquette, Michigan.
Once again, the Redmen were the first to score in the third quarter against the and trailed by nine points 29-20. Marquette continued to narrow the lead, as they got within eight points (33-25) with the quarter half over. With two minutes left in the third quarter the Negaunee Miners led against the Marquette Redmen on Sunny.FM! By the quarter’s end, Tyler Jandron had four fouls & Eric Lori had three. The Miners held onto the lead against the Marquette Redmen 41-36 to end the third quarter.
The Negaunee Miners came into the fourth quarter fighting and maintained a four point lead early 45-39 against the Marquette Redmen. With Tyler Jandron in foul trouble the Miners needed somebody to step up offensively. They found him in Zane Radloff, who scored six of his 12 points in the fourth quarter. The Redmen did manage to bring the lead to one point with 4:30 left in the game (47-46). The Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball team still maintained a three point lead against the Marquette Redmen with 3 minutes left (52-49) when Tyler Jandron re-entered the ball game. With 1:32 left, a three-point game, star guard Eric Lori fouled out on a reaching foul. This added to an already nail-biting final minutes to the game. Tyler Jandron would sink some free-throws to keep the Miners ahead off the Redmen and stave off their final comeback attempt. The Negaunee Miners Boys pulled out the win against the undefeated Marquette Redmen 61-55.
