02/12/14 Negaunee, Michigan– Carl Leander Johnson the voice of the Negaunee Miners and his partner Jesse Anderson were at home tonight in Negaunee, Michigan to bring exciting play by play basketball action as the Negaunee Miners Girls hosted the Gladstone Braves on Sunny.FM.
The Gladstone Braves won the tip off and took the lead 2-0 against the Negaunee Miners on Sunny.FM. The Negaunee Miners were able to tie the score 3-3 against the Gladstone Braves with 5 minutes left in the quarter. The Negaunee Miners Girls took their first lead of the night 7-6 against the Gladstone Braves with the quarter half over. Both teams would share the lead in this quarter, but the Negaunee Miners led 14-12 against the Gladstone Braves to finish the quarter.
The Gladstone Braves quickly tied the game 14-14 against the Negaunee Miners in the second quarter. The Gladstone Braves took the lead early in the second quarter and led 19-14 against the Negaunee Miners with 6 minutes left in the first half. Negaunee struggled against the Gladstone Braves full-court press defense and trailed 24-17 at the half in Negaunee, Michigan.
The Miners were first to put points on the board in the third quarter on an Ashley Tresedder free-throw and narrowed the Gladstone Braves lead to 6 points 24-18. The Gladstone Braves pushed the lead to double digits, 28-18 against the Negaunee Miners with the quarter half over. The Braves were on fire and led 33-18 against the Miners with 3 minutes left in the quarter. Gladstone would turn this one into a route as they pushed the lead to 20 points by the quarter’s end, leading the Miners 40-20 after three on Sunny.FM!
The Braves continued their dominance in the fourth quarter with a 3 point shot and increased their lead against the Miners to 23 with 6 minutes left in the game. Negaunee put their first points on the board in the fourth quarter with 1 minute left in the game to trail the Gladstone Braves 49-22. The Gladstone Braves came away with the easy win against the Negaunee Miners 51-22 in Negaunee, Michigan.

In the post-game interview with Head Coach Brandon Sager, it was discussed that he and his team decided to play this game very conservatively due to it being a meaningless game in Negaunee’s MPC title hopes. Coach Sager said his main goal tonight was to come out of this game no worse for the wear as they have a HUGE game coming up on Friday night, at home, against the Westwood Patriots. Leading the way for the Miners in this one was Ashley Tresedder (6pts 4reb 3stls), Hannah Laurila (5pts, 4reb, 2stls), and Aubri Romback (4pts, 2reb, stl, blk.). The Miners will play on Friday with a chance to clinch a share of the MPC title if they’re able to knock off their longtime rival: The Westwood Patriots.
