Gov. Rick Snyder With Third State of the State Address Focusing on Roads

SBA logoLansingWednesday , January 16, 2013 – With Michigan losing $3 million each day in lost maintenance and wear and tear on roads and bridges (totaling $1.095 billion every year), our state’s roads are consistently ranked among the worst in the nation.

The Small Business Association of Michigan anticipates the governor will focus a significant portion of his speech on transportation and infrastructure improvement initiatives.

The cost of moving products in and out of Michigan continues to increase as our infrastructure deteriorates, placing an economic burden on small business owners.

The SBA wants to hear from you!  Here is the survey members are being asked to answer by noon on Thursday, January 17th. Please answer these three questions to help SBAM in the ongoing transportation discussion in Michigan.

Do transportation costs directly impact your ability to bring your business’ goods and services to market?

Yes   No

Given that a majority of revenue raised would be guaranteed only to improving Michigan’s transportation infrastructure (roads and bridges), would you support an increase in the state gasoline tax and/or a hike in vehicle registration fees?

Yes   No

In lieu of an increase in the state gasoline tax and a hike in vehicle registration fees, would you support an increase in the state sales tax if the majority of the revenue raised would be guaranteed only for improving Michigan’s transportation infrastructure (roads and bridges)?
