Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The legacy of one of the Irontown’s favorite sons, Al Ammesmaki, AKA GOOFUS, is being celebrated this weekend in Negaunee.
The inaugural GOOF-FEST is being held all day Saturday to remember GOOFUS and to raise funds for a new scholarship that was created in his honor at the Negaunee Public Schools.
Organizers Scott “Smarty” Soeltner and Greg “Ponzie” Pond joined the Sunny Morning Show today to talk about the weekend’s activities and invite everyone to come to Negaunee and celebrate GOOFUS’ life and times.
Smarty said the events kick off with a BBQ feed at 2:00pm Saturday at the Negaunee Eagles, followed by a kazoo parade on Iron Street at 3:00pm.
Ponzie added that there will be karaoke with Pierre Ogea at Smarty’s Saloon from 4:00pm to 7:00pm and music from the Flat Broke Blues Band at Barr’s Bar from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.
There will also be commemorative t-shirts available to purchase and bucket raffles to bid on to raise funds for the scholarship.
Ponzie added that the bucket raffles will continue on Sunday afternoon at Barr’s Bar during their Bloody Mary bar hours for more bidding to happen.
