Marquette, MI – May 6th, 2016 – Approximately 13,000 children in Michigan alone need foster homes while the state works to find them safe, permanent homes, and Todd Paz was joined on the 8th Day this past Saturday by Bob Wheaton, Director of Communications for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to talk about Foster Care Month in May.

“May highlights the crucial role that foster families provide in protecting children who were abused or neglected,” said Gov. Rick Snyder.

Michigan has nearly 6,000 foster homes, and many children live in relative’s homes while they await adoption. The adoption process can be one of the most difficult periods in a child’s life, and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services works hard to reunite children with their parents or find loving adoptive parents.

If you or anyone you know is considering becoming a foster parent, call the Foster Care Navigator Program at 1-855-MICHKIDS. The Navigator Program uses expienced foster care parents to answer questions, and they can help guide prospective foster parents on their journey.
