Marquette, MI – June 16, 2026 – State Senator Ed McBroom says a recent call from the Michigan Education Association to get the state budget done soon is appreciated, but not necessary.
The MEA issued a statement earlier this month for the state budget to be set by the statutory deadline of July 1st.
The Dickinson County Republican says he thinks there are still too many differences between the budget proposals from the Senate, House and Governor’s Office to hit that July 1st deadline, but said there’s no need to worry at this time.
McBroom added that the legal deadline to set the state budget is October 1st, and while the process went down to the wire last year, K-12 school districts were covered and received increased funding.
