June 10, 2026 – Marquette, MI – The chance to enjoy all of Michigan’s state-run trails, waterways and recreation areas free of charge is happening this weekend.
It is the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ “Three Free Weekend” this Saturday and Sunday.
Yesney explained that the weekend allows fishing and ORV trail use without a license, and opens all state parks and recreation areas without the need for a pass.
He said that the weekend grew out of the original “Free Fishing Weekend” by the D-N-R to give newcomers the chance to discover the outdoors and also to encourage longtime explorers to break out their gear and get out in Michigan’s outdoor areas.
