Marquette, MI – May 13, 2026 – The Northern Michigan University Department of Theatre and Dance is preseting the 2025 Panowski Playwriting Award Winner this week on campus. The production is called “Tragedy Sound” and it is being performed this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Panowski Black Box Theatre. Each show is at 7:30Pm.
Crawford-Truckey explained it is a story about three young women, Becky, Billie, and Mariel, who are lifelong friends in the Upper Peninsula who accept a dare and embark on a canoe trek in frigid waters that eventually finds them stranded in the middle of Lake Superior.
Joy and Mawsen spoke about their respective roles and explained some of the technical innovations the cast and crew have developed to not only bring the story to life, but to give life to Lake Superior.
