Search Is On For The Upper Peninsula Veteran of the Year

Marquette, MIJune 8, 2023 – The effort that recognizes the Upper Peninsula Veteran of the Year is seeking nominations for this year’s vet.

President of the Board, George LaBlonde III, and Vice President Will Weycker spoke about the effort today with Mark & Walt in the Morning.

LaBlonde explained that the program was started in 2001 and the U.P. Vet of the Year is selected by a board of veterans from across the U.P. and representing veterans’ groups including the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Disabled American Veterans, The American Veterans and the Vietnam Veterans of America.

Weycker said the veterans are selected based on involvement in veterans’ organizations, involvement in veterans’ events and the veteran’s community and involvement in the community at large.

They said that this year, the format to make a nomination has had some changes intended improve the quality and consistency of submissions.

Applications can be filled out by anyone in the community but should be vetted by your local veteran’s organization, and they are due by the June 20, 2023.
