Marquette,MIJune 1, 2023The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office has reactivated their Victim Services Unit.

The VSU is a volunteer group trained under the direction of the Michigan Sheriff’s Association to help victims, survivors and their loved ones work through a crisis or crime.

Marquette County Sheriff Greg Zyburt and VSU volunteer Scott Groleau spoke about the program this week with Mark & Walt in the Morning.

Zyburt explained that the VSU serves to assist police, fire and medical personnel to comfort and help victims immediately after an incident by providing short-term crisis intervention.

He added that having no personal reference for traumatic events, most victims often feel lost and in need of guidance.

Groleau said that the VSU can provide that support and frees authorities to do their job without leaving victims alone or feeling ignored.

He added that anyone interested in volunteering for the Victim Services Unit can call the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office at (906) 225-8435 or him directly at (906) 280-1666.
