Marquette, MIApril 13, 2023A special education millage request, coordinated by the Marquette-Alger RESA, will be on the ballot in Marquette and Alger counties in the upcoming May 2nd election.

Monica Nordeen, Director of Human Resources & Communications with Marquette-Alger RESA, spoke about the proposal this week with Mark & Walt in the Morning.

Noordeen explained that the 20-year proposal, if approved, will cost the average homeowner in Marquette and Alger counties 42¢ per day, based on a home value of $200,000.

She added that if approved, this millage would bring in approximately $4.8 million per year earmarked for special education services.

Noordeen said the generated funds would greatly reduce strains on the general operating budgets for all school districts in the two counties that are currently being used to cover budget shortfalls for special education programs.
