Marquette DDA Implementing Downtown Social District

Marquette, MIMarch 31, 2023The Marquette City Commission recently approved a plan developed by the Marquette Downtown Development Authority to implement a Social District designation for downtown Marquette.

Marquette DDA Executive Director Tara Laase-McKinney spoke about the plan with Mark & Walt in the Morning.

Laase-McKinney explained that he designation would allow for outdoor consumption of alcoholic beverages, which are sold in special cups by participating businesses, by adults within a designated area of the downtown district.

She shared the area of the downtown that will be covered in the plan and what the expected timeline is for the designation to go into effect.

  1. I think this will encourage more drinking. Individuals will not be responsible for their actions; walking in front of cars, and vandalizing neighborhood yards. What would happen if an individual walks in front of a car? Is the city of Marquette or the driver responsible for medical bills? Is
    the city responsible for damage to my property?
    Also 10:00 is to late. I work and get up early.
