MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A 28-year-old Marquette man will stand trial for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy.
Axel Acevedo is charged with first and second degree criminal sexual conduct and accosting a child for immoral purposes.
The investigation began when the Marquette Police learned that Acevedo was a sex offender who had not registered his whereabouts in the city and discovered he was living in a residence where the boy lived.
Police say shortly after notifying the boy’s mother of Acevedo’s status, she told officers she believed her son had been assaulted.
Acevedo is in the Marquette County Jail on $650,000 bond. The investigation is still ongoing and police say there may be additional victims.
