Negaunee, MichiganOctober 5, 2018 – Well, I had one of those mornings today. Where you’re frantically flying out the door and praying you don’t get in a wreck on your way to work. Yea, it isn’t fun. But the best part is that I did make it to work on time, I didn’t get in a wreck, and I learned how early I really do need to leave for work to get here on time now that the snow is flying, because let’s face it, your drive time drastically changes once Old Man Winter appears for the season.

As I got out of the shower, dressed, and went to the window, I noticed the fluffy flakes falling from the sky. I inwardly groaned, then trudged out to my car to start it so it wouldn’t be freezing once I left for work.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t get into my car. Over the summer, I had gotten into the terrible habit of keeping my car key in the cup holder of my car. I had done this the day before once I returned home from work. The key was still in there, I could see it from the window. But my car was locked. I had definitely left it unlocked the day before, but here’s a fun tidbit – my car locks itself over and over again once it begins to get colder outside. Inconveniently, it had done this overnight.

So, there I was, wet hair plastered to my face, keys locked inside my car, and I still had to finish getting ready. Now, there is only one spare key for my car, and it’s on my husband’s keyring, along with all of his other keys. He usually hangs up his keys on the key rack near the door, but he neglected to do so yesterday.

Ensue me frantically searching his jeans crumpled up on the floor from the night before, looking through things on the nightstand and dresser, and throwing things aside every which way in an effort to find said spare key, to no avail.

I yelled, “WHERE IS THE SPARE KEY!?” so loudly that my husband sat up ramrod straight immediately and shouted back, “I DON’T KNOW,” eyes and hair wild. He was still half asleep.

I ran out to the car and decided to do things the hard way, as I was running out of time. I opened the back hatch, which made the car alarm go off in the early morning hours. I’m sure my neighbors were appreciative.

I crawled through my car to the front, grabbed the keys, opened the door and shut it again. Then I had to turn the key in the outside lock to stop the alarm. What a morning.

But guess what? I made it in time for work. Winning!
