Marquette, MI – December 23, 2015 – The staff at Great Lakes Radio, Super One Foods of Marquette and Negaunee, and Bayside Beverages, a Division of Great Lakes Wine & Spirits brought some Christmas cheer to the residents at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans yesterday.
About a month ago, Great Lakes Radio teamed up with Super One Foods and Bayside Beverages to bring some comfort to our veterans at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette through our annual Christmas is for Veterans gift drive. We were humbled by the outpouring of support from the community and thank everyone who purchased a gift for the veterans.
Great Lakes Radio on-air personalities asked listeners to include the veterans in their Christmas shopping, and collection boxes were set up at Super One Foods in Marquette and Negaunee as well as at the Great Lakes Radio offices in Marquette. Every box was filled to overflowing with gifts for the veterans. It took several people to load all gifts into the WRUP van to bring them to the veterans yesterday, and the back of that big van was packed with thoughtful gifts from our community.
We arrived at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans and set up all the gifts on long tables so the veterans could choose gifts that would suit their needs best. Every staff member from Bayside Beverage, Super One Foods, and Great Lakes Radio in attendance took a turn helping veterans make their way through the tables. We helped them stow their gifts, sang carols with the students from Bothwell Middle School, and we visited with men and women who might not have had a visitor in days or even months.
Christmas is for Veterans is an annual tradition at Great Lakes Radio. We are thankful not only to the community who helped make this year’s gift drive a success, but we are also thankful to all the veterans for their service. Enjoy the photo gallery of the event below the video.
