State Representative Sara Cambensy Discusses COVID-19 Legislation And More

Marquette, MI – (06/12/20) – State Representative Sara Cambensy joined Mark & Walt in the Morning today for a legislative update. Cambensy talked about her getting involved with a package of bills called the ‘Workers First Reopening Plan’ to support workers and ensure their safety in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

She explained that the 11-bill package aims to do more to protect Michigan workers while limiting the time frame of missed work by employees. Cambensy said the worker protections, while using increased testing, increased workplace sanitation, and social distancing practices, will help to avoid a large economic disruptions and curb unforeseen costs.

Cambensy also talked about the looming cuts to the state’s general fund operating budget due to the significant drop in tax revenue caused by the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns around Michigan. She said the budgets for at least the next two years in Michigan will be impacted by the revenue loss, and that will result in big drops in funding for K-12 schools, higher education, roads and much more.
