Drunk Driver Hits Train with Children in Car

    Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)The investigation is continuing into a car-train accident that happened yesterday evening in Marquette County.

    The accident happened just before 6 p.m. near M-35 on Ski Hill Road in Little Lake when a northbound Chevrolet Impala failed to stop at a crossing and struck a westbound Canadian National train.

    Authorities say there were four people in the car, including two children, aged 5 and 6. The driver of the car, the mother of the children, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

    The driver’s mother and the two children had to be extricated from the car and were taken to Marquette General Hospital for treatment of injuries.  The driver was lodged in the Marquette County Jail.

    Police say there were no flashing lights or road barriers at the crossing and the operator of the train was not injured.  No names are being released at this time.
